1992 Westport Custom Passenger,The M/V Chugach was built by Westport Shipyard, Westport Washington in 1992. It is a 71.5' fiberglass vessel, certified for 126 passengers and 5 crewmembers. It was built for Stan Stevens which was subsequently purchased by Kenai Fjords Tours this is the only vessel of this style owned by Kenai Fjords Tours. Passenger Space and AmenitiesThis vessel has 127 inside seats. The lower (main) deck has interior airline style chairs with fold down tray tables. It also has 8 - 8' long bench style seats that run fore and aft along both exterior walls inside the lower level main deck. The M/V Chugach has 2 standard heads (toilets) that are located below the main deck, downstairs inside the cabin. This vessel also has a handicap accessible head on the main deck, aft starboard corner inside the main cabin. The main deck arrangement has an open passenger deck forward, nearly full width deckhouse amidships, and a small passenger deck aft; the upper deck has the pilothouse forward and cabin aft, with open decks aft and both sides. All exterior decks have adequate freeing ports An HDPE rub rail is fitted full length at the sheer and partial length below.Five watertight transverse bulkheads subdivide the hull into six belowdeck compartments, from forward: forepeak, quarters, water closets and equipment space, machinery space, dry void with waste tank, and lazarette.PROPULSION MACHINERYTwo Lugger (Komatsu) model L6170 six-cylinder turbocharged diesels are electric started, fresh water and heat exchanger cooled, and have sea water cooled exhausts. Port is serial #1701-1089, and starboard is 1701-1088. The engines are rated at 750 horsepower each, and are through ZF model BW-195A hydraulic reverse and reduction gears at 2.484:1 ratio.
