***UPDATE MAY 27TH, 2019*** ~ The Decks and Cabin Roof have been repainted with Non-Skid Paint. ~ Much restoration has gone into this beautiful vessel, and she is waiting for her new owner to steward her forward and enjoy her fine sailing characteristics. Stock #042148 Classic San Diego Built Kettenburg known as "Aristocrats of sail" The K-38 is 38' overall but 25'10" at the waterline, 8' beam, 6'2" draft. Sail area 538 square feet. The exquisite beauty of the K38's lines, its ideal size, its incredible feel of balance and speed, its sleek, narrow hull, its meticulous craftsmanship in wood and its silent, easy motion in a seaway combine to make it superior to all other yachts for sailing in Southern California's waters. Designed by Paul Kettenburg, and built at the renowned Kettenburg Boat Works on Shelter Island, Chelsea is the 27th boat of this design built in 1954 of Carvel planked Mahogany. K-38's are still recognized as the "Aristocrats of sail" on the Pacific Coast. Her spruce mast was completely rebuilt in 2000, and is currently in the seller's warehouse. It will be reinstalled on the boat at the time of a sale. The mast currently on the boat belongs to a different K-38. When the mast was rebuilt, it was Totally disassembled, re-glued, re-rabbitted, re-finished with varnish (Not paint) and re-wired at a cost of $10k. A completely new transom was professionally installed along with the aft 3rd of the boat being replanked at the same time. In 2004 the entire boat was gone through, and every rib was examined and sistered where needed. At that time, a custom brace that consists of a custom built rib which goes from the port shear clamp to the starboard shear clamp was installed to give added support to the mast step and floors in the area a around the mast. The turnbuckle transfers stress from the chain plate to a stainless steel "floor" which is bolted to a new oak floor in the bilge. The boat was completely refastened and caulked before paint was applied.

1932 Alden Sloop/Cutter One of John Alden's finest designs was the Sloop-Cutter Design No. 531, for Mr. Ralph Forbes, of Boston, MA.   In 1932, Mr. Ralph E. Forbes of Boston, MA, commissioned the renown George Lawley and Sons to build S/Y Lark.  Ralph Emerson Forbes was the son of William Hathaway Forbes and Edith Emerson (daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson).  The Forbes spent many years of memorable sailing with their family and notable guests out of Naushon Island.  This is a two owner yacht that has been sailed by the Forbes family for 50 years.  She is very capable at sea, racing and entertaining guests.  In 1972, Captain Eric Little (a master shipwright), purchased the S/Y Lark, sailing her every summer in the Elizabeth Islands, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and cruising Cape Cod.  During the winters, Captain Little completed restorations including replacing a majority of the frames, floors, and planking.  George Lawley and Sons built hundreds of ships and yachts, most notably the yachts Puritan and Mayflower respective winners of the 1885 and 1886, America's Cup (and the fine sloop Lark). For you traditionalist's out there, Read on This Sailboat was built by a man with passion and a vision to create a classic, traditional sailboat from the George Buehler stable( Great bear).Elmer worked for the forestry and put 10 years of labor and love into her before passing. As we begin a new boating season, I am offering this great vessel at a very compelling price, much lower than last summer's listing. When you compare our vessel's roominess, cleanliness, and restored durability to any other boat, she is certainly unique and a tremendous value. UPDATE: Four Saturdays is now in the water and readily available for inspection. I strongly encourage seriously interested parties to visit her. Classic lines with modern style and amenities are a striking combination. NOTE: This classic vessel is not just another patched up old boat. I has been gone through a multi-year, ground up rebuild. Granted, that makes it somewhat difficult to find comparables for pricing, but as you will see below, this is not going to be a money making venture for me, but a killer deal for you. Offered for sale is our family's pride and joy, the Four Saturdays (the name is derived from our last name, which means Saturday in Polish, and our family of Four). I have spent 2010-2012 (losing count after 3000 man hours) completely restoring this classic. Pacemakers were handmade in Egg Harbor, New Jersey, until the company was purchase by Chris Craft. This motor yacht was brought to the Great Lakes thru the Erie Canal in 1966 to Minnesota, via the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. She spent most of her life there, until I purchased and brought her back 1100 nautical miles to Lake Michigan. It is what I describe as a "restomod"... I've kept the classic lines of the vessel, but have improved most aspects of it for useability, longevity, and style in the modern world. Listed below will be a long, boring list of all of the work done, but, in a nutshell, the result is a very unique vessel that my family of four has enjoyed as a liveaboard for the last four summers. Because of this restoration, she is ready to last another 47 years. Four Saturdays garners a lot of attention as we cruise the waters around Holland, Michigan, and is reliable as the day is long. She's got a displacement hull, so she's not fast, but she'll run all week at 9-11 knots. The Detroit Diesels mated to Twin Disc transmissions start immediately, run flawlessly, and have only 2300 hours from NEW. Ask any diesel mechanic, and they will confirm that these motors are practically just broken in. The hull is tight and solid, and runs a bilge pump maybe 2 gallons an hour. We live on an end slip on Lake Macatawa, and it's the best lakefront property you'll ever get to enjoy. We had dreamed of moving somewhere warm and living on her year round, which would have been awesome. Unfortunately, we have decided to sell Four Saturdays to pursue some other opportunities. I may consider very compelling partial trades for automobiles or a 26-30' center console fishing boat. A vessel of this size can only be transported via waterway or ship transporter, so please consider this when bidding/buying. I may consider assisting in the transport of her to your desired destination (at additional cost). Likewise, a loan is practically impossible for a vessel of this vintage, so liquid funds are necessary. Notes: A. As some provenance, I have the original build file from Pacemaker that was obtained when the original offices were torn down. As some points of reference, in 1966 the average cost of new house was $14,200.00, average income per year was $6,900.00, and the average cost of a new car was $2,650.00. The price paid for this Pacemaker in 1966 was $79,751.75. In today's dollars, that's $573,693.23. B. I also have countless photos of the entire project stage, including the photos of the 2004/5 $200,000 hull restoration completed by a previous owner. Many of these photos are included in a professionally bound photo book. C. Many ask about maintenance. I was blessed with the time to do this project in a relatively short span of time, but involving thousands of man hours. Most cannot buy out the time to do so. Now that the vessel was stripped bare and completely built back up with longevity in mind, it's just a matter of keeping things that way, which is just like any other home, cottage, or asset. Normally I would agree with those who say NOT to buy a wooden boat... except for the Four Saturdays, because the hard work has all been done. I am in no way saying that she is perfect, but if you want perfect, buy a new plastic boat... costing hundreds of thousands of dollars (maybe millions) more, and nowhere near the uniqueness and character of a classic vessel. Below are the details of this vessel. We thank you for looking at her, and if you are a serious potential buyer and have questions or a request to see her in person, feel free to email me through eBay, or call me at two six nine five zero one three two three two. Obviously, we are selling her with no warranties, expressed or implied, but I have attempted to describe her as completely and honestly as possible. We do have the vessel for sale locally, so we reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Q: Your boat is beautiful! Job very well done! Do you know height of boat from waterline? What is your fuel burn/hr at cruising speed? Range? Boat sleeps? # staterooms, heads, showers? I see you use portable ac units. Are they effective? Do you have any heat source on board? How is boat stored in winter? Draft of boat? Thanks Feb-14-14 A: rob157, Thanks for your comment. We have truly enjoyed our time with her. To answer your questions: A. I have not measured lately the height above the waterline, but I believe it is about 20'. I know that without the lite mast, we navigated under the one bridge on the Illinois Riv. that is fixed at 19'. Sorry for the ambiguity, but since restoring, we have been in waters that are not inhibited by bridges. If you would like a more accurate measurement, please let me know. B. We normally cruise at hull speed, around 9.5-10 knots. My estimated fuel burn per hour is 8-10 GPH. It certainly varies by itinerary. Traveling S from Minnesota via the Mississippi, we cruised at 11 knots at 1.6 mpg. Obviously, because she is a displacement hull, she is never going to be fast, but she runs 5 knots at idle and will run all week at 8-12 knots. She has two 300 gal. rear tanks, fabricated new in 2005, and 2 auxiliary 100 gal. tanks in the engine room, 800 gals total. C. Boat sleeps 6-8. 3 staterooms: 1 master w/queen bed, stateroom 2 w/bunk beds, forward stateroom w/full size bed, and couch in salon that folds to full size bed. Two larger heads: master and main head with enlarged shower. Redesigned from original configuration. Also exterior H/C shower that we use a lot on the enlarged teak swim platform. D. Yes, we use portable A/C units, 2 12000 BTU models, as well as a new low profile 15000 BTU roof unit in the pilothouse, and they work very well. The original A/C was just too inefficient and unreliable. We purchased the portable units as a stopgap measure until we could afford a new bank of conventional marine A/Cs, but they worked so nicely we decided to keep them for the time being. We rarely need any heat source, but when necessary, we have a couple small portable electric heaters. E. Boat is stored outside on the hard in the winter. Firstly, due to my belief that the wood likes it better, and second, due to cost. F. I believe official draft is 3'8". Thanks.

Currently located for the off season in Hamburg Cove, Lyme Connecticut, Wild Swan (Hull #25), is an authentic example of this successful, desirable and classic yawl. She has been fully maintained, in good structural condition and is well equipped. Her current owner had Wild Swan completely rebuilt and comprehensively restored by Triad Boatworks in 2003-2004. An illustrated project description and 2012 survey are available. She had a new 30 HP Yanmar installed in 2010. Raymarine navigation instruments and autopilot. Hathaway, Reiser & Raymond sails. Wild Swan is under cover at Cove Landing Marina this winter, and she will be cared for and actively used until sold. She can be viewed by appointment. WILD SWAN (#25) was originally built in 1955 at Abeking and Rasmussen shipyard, on the banks of the River Weser, Lemwerder, Germany. She was rebuilt with commitment to virtually “a new boat” standards and condition by Triad Boatworks, Mattapoisett, Massachusetts in 2003-2004. The carvel planked hull is fabricated with African mahogany upon white oak stem, frame and beams with silicon bronze fastenings, stem and keel bolts. She has an oak backbone, deadwood and floor timbers. Full keel, with propeller set in rudder aperture. She has an iron keel and the rudder is mahogany. The house sides are varnished mahogany, the cabin top is now gel coated fiberglass over pine (Cove Landing Marina, Lyme, Connecticut 2012). The interior bulkheads are the original European knotty pine. The decks are laid teak over marine plywood. Bronze stanchions with varnished teak toe rails, handrails and trim. Atop the cabin house there is a bronze Charley Noble flue for the cabin heater and bronze dorade ventilator. The yacht's finish is white with blue boot and cove, green bottom paint. Accommodations and layout below The traditional cabin plan of WILD SWAN is typical of the Concordia class with comfortable berths for four. In the forepeak is a sail bin with slatted floor. Twin folding green canvas pipe berths in the fo'c'sle with settee lockers beneath. The forward cabin also has reading lights and butterfly overhead hatch for ambient light and ventilation. The hatch can also act as a wind scoop with canvas held up by bronze wire bail. Two round opening bronze ports are forward. To port and abaft the forward cabin through mirrored door is the head with Raritan manual toilet (with 6 gallon holding tank), vintage vanity athwartships (with fresh water hand pump), medicine cabinet, linen hamper, locker space and opening port. Bookshelves are outboard. When the paneled locust door to the forecastle is closed two hanging lockers are assessable from the starboard side. In the main cabin the Pullman/Concordia style berths port and starboard keep the bedding stowed and out of sight and double as backrests when up for the very comfortable fitted Temper-Pedic filled settees. Outboard of the berths are shelves, book shelves and slatted lockers. The drop leaf table is just to port of centerline. The knotty pine paneling gives the Concordia a distinctive New England charm, the joiner work and trim is locust. Round varnished teak grab rails are fastened to the overhead. Headroom is 6'3" in the main saloon. The interior cushions are dark Concordia green corduroy and include back and side bolsters. Interior 12 volt lamps and brass oil lamps. On WILD SWAN the teak sole has been left unfinished and authentic. Easily removed for access to the bilge. The large varnished wood butterfly opening main hatch/skylight aft of the mainmast is oversized to provide ample ventilation and ambient light. Luke propane soapstone/brass heating stove is on the forward bulkhead. Cooking on top is possible with fiddle rails. The bronze Charley Noble is retained, but is not connected in this improved system. The galley is aft to port with a Luke gimbaled two burner propane stove, stainless steel sink and with a stainless steel lined ice box abaft to port (SeaFrost engine driven refrigeration). Two ports off the aft bulkhead open into the cockpit. The 30HP Yanmar diesel engine is located partly under the bridge deck and partly under the cockpit deck. Easily reached when required by means of removable pine panel and covers. The companionway ladder leads out to the cockpit. The Raymarine RL70C GPS chartplotter/Radar is mounted on the starboard swinging bracket in the companionway, the Raymarine multi displays to port on the cabin house bulkhead. The self bailing cockpit is finished in bare even grained teak. Covers for hatches. Tiller steering, with folding (up against mizzen) tiller. Portside locker contains aluminium fuel tank, starboard contains manual bilge pump. Engine controls in starboard locker. Cockpit seats taper aft, sheets are easily handled from the helm. Aft lazerette for storage. Cockpit cushions are light green. Deck, ground tackle and sundry equipment Decks are teak over marine plywood, solid locust cleats, bronze chocks, bronze stanchions and bases. Double lifelines, bronze bow pulpit. Anchor rode pipe in foredeck for easy utilization. Bower: 35lb CQR anchor with chain and nylon rode. Kedge: Fisherman. Wooden boathook. Fenders. Fire extinguishers, ship's bell, Manual air horn, personal flotation devices (Types II and V). 12 volt bilge pumps, manual bilge pump in cockpit. Sails & Rigging Yawl with 7/8 fractional rig with well constructed glued-up varnished box sectioned Sitka spruce masts. Self tending jib club boom, with bronze traveller. Spinnaker pole. Reaching strut. The boxed mainmast is keel stepped on elongated and deeper than original specs oak step reinforced with stainless steel with a mast step/tie rod system (Triad 2004), which increase bending stiffness and prevent compression loads from the mast compromising floor frames. Chainplates are bronze and are through bolted to structural members. Standing rigging is 1x 19 stainless steel wire. Primary winches are a pair of Lewmar #46 self tailing mounted on mahogany bases; on the mainmast are two Lewmar #30s. The mainsheet block and tackle traveller is located on the raised bridge deck. The mizzen also has a block and tackle traveler. Bronze genoa track mounted on toe rail for genoa sheet cars. Wood cheeked Merriman blocks retain original character. ASKING PRICE NOW REDUCED BY $20,000!! UPDATE: After having been inspected by mechanic and me from stem to stern, we put her in the water on the 24th of April, and brought her the 20nm to Lake Macatawa that weekend. She is now in our slip in Holland, Michigan. In preparation for this season, she received a new coat of ablative bottom paint, new skirting around the aft deck and fly deck, and a host of little projects to keep her as pretty as possible (polished the solid surface counter tops, additional coats of floor finish in the galley/salon, new window treatments in galley/salon, etc... stuff that really wasn't necessary, but I'm kind of picky). As planned, she is tight and sound. Her bilge runs maybe once a day for about 5 seconds, which is beautiful for a classic wooden motoryacht of her size. Listed below will be a long, boring list of all of the work done, but, in a nutshell, the result is a very unique vessel that my family of four has enjoyed as a liveaboard for the last three summers. I know that without the lite mast, we navigated under the one bridge on the Illinois Riv. that is fixed at 17'. Thanks.
